Planing of a Cutting System

Each cutting system is diligently designed to meet the individual requirements of our customers. There is not one cutting system, which is valid for all requirements. The aim of the project management of RG Technologies is to find the best solution for the customer.

The planning of a cutting system depends on many factors:

  • Evaluation of the available space at the customer’s premises
  • Properties of the material to be cut. Especially material size, thickness and strength.
  • Definition of geometries to be cut.
  • Limitation on the main cutting tools used. This can be the knife, the miller or the puncher.
  • Consideration of the model variety.
  • Definition range of estimated quantity.
  • Production type specifications. This can be the production of single pairs, prototypes, samples or complete production series.

When planning new cutting systems RG Technologies is able to fall back upon longtime, well-founded experiences of many successfully implemented projects. The future requirements of a company are always considered in the configuration of a cutting system. The aim is to reach a high flexibility in the production, in order to react quickly to new marginal conditions. This applies particularly during the subsequent ongoing operation.

Due to the modular design of hardware and software, a possible future increase in production can be included in the planning of a cutting system. Production increases do not necessarily require the purchase of further cutting tables. Often it is sufficient to integrate additional nesting stations into the existing system. Spatial Conditions

Spatial conditions are one of the main characteristics that need to be considered when deciding about the configuration of the cutting table. The priority objective is to optimally integrate the cutting system in the production process. The intention of RG Technologies is, to keep the production process short and direct. This should ideally be implemented without major modifications in the production area.

Materials

The type of material is another essential component when compiling a table. Often a combination of the following requirements of the material is needed. RG Technologies offers bullmer cutting tables. It is a great advance that tools and knives can be exchanged very fast and without too much effort for the various material configurations.

Material Size

The material size is the decisive factor for the cutting table size. The necessary size of the cutting area is basically construed according to the maximal used material size. It is given to the principle as large as necessary but as small as possible.

Material Geometry

The material geometry and properties are decisive factors for the design of the cutting system and the integrated nesting system.

  • Materials with fixed dimensions, like sheet goods, can be nested on the screen. No additional nesting station is required. These kinds of material need roll on devices at the cutting table.
  • Materials with irregular outlines can be captured with a camera system. Parallel to the outline detection, material faults can be digitally determined. On this basis the outlines can be nested automatically on the screen like sheet material. Of course, these materials can also be manually nested on a separate nesting table or directly on the cutting table.
  • With high quality materials, it is recommended to do the nesting manually. If a contour exists, there is the possibility of using a combination of automatic and manual nesting. This also applies to parts or materials with many requirements concerning the quality or material direction.

Generally all nesting methods can be combined within a cutting system. This increases flexibility and efficiency in production.

Material Character

Due to the variety of cutting materials it is important to focus particularly on the different tools. In the processing of the materials we apply special importance on the requirements of accuracy and precise cutting edges. When planning a cutting system it is important to consider the characteristics of the used materials. Before installing a cutting system RG Technologies performs cutting tests with the customers’ materials. So we can ensure that each important cutting tool is included when installing the cutting table. During these extensive cutting tests we determine the optimal tools for the materials, the appropriate knife for the geometries and the corresponding cutting setting. When installing a cutting system, we fit the tools and settings optimally to the needs of our users.

Production Type

The type of production is one of the most important features for the configuration of the cutting system. Thus, in a pure prototype production, it is often not necessary to separate the nesting from the cutting table.

The higher the output of a cutting system, the more factors must be examined. Consideration must always be done in conjunction with the points described above. A basic principle is: The table has to be in use all the time, because it is the most expensive element of the production chain. This should be the aim of any planning. There are several solutions which result in an optimal setting of components within the cutting system:

  • A cutting table with conveyor works as on an 'assembly line'.
  • Separating the nesting from the cutting table increases flexibility and productivity.
  • Picking assistance at the end of the cutting table allows quicker picking of the cut patterns.

RG Technologies Meets all Requirements

The aim of RG Technologies is, to customize the cutting system that meets the requirements of your company. The cutting system will take your production a large step forward in terms of productivity, speed, efficiency and flexibility. This is demonstrated by our numerous reference projects.
